Course Description:  This five part course will provide an introduction to teachings of Islam which are often misunderstood in the West.  The history of Islam and contributions of Islamic society to world civilizations will be reviewed.  We will also compare and contrast the teachings of Quran with Bible and study how Christianity and Judiasm are related to Islam.  A separate session will be devoted to the role of women in Islam.  Finally, this course will address the root causes of terrorism and geopolitical issues facing Muslim nations in the Middle East and South Asia.

Mazhar Rishi is on the faculty of Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD and practices pathology in Delaware Valley.  He is the president of Children Creating Bridges and directs it's Institute of Peace, Justice & Interfaith Dialogue.

Jeffrey Heim has taught history and African/Asian culture to high school students in West Chester School District for a number of years.  He has extensive knowledge about Middle East and has sponsored the meetings of World Affairs Council in West Chester for 24 years.
